The ancient greeks were part of one of the most important places in ancient history and were around about 2500s. The greeks were artists, actors, athletes and architects. They called themselves 'hellenes' and called there land 'hellas' the name greeks was later given by the romans. the greeks sailed the sea in order to find new land.

What was it like to live in an ancient greek family?

Ancient Greece was a warm place (like today) so most

people would garden,fish and trade to make a living.

People loved to sit and watch plays. They mostly lived

in villages or countrysides. The houses were often made of wood or mud bricks and would be decorated with wooden stools or rich people would decorate it with paintings and colourful tiles.

The ancient greeks at war

Greece was made of little states that would often squabble and go into war.2 states called Sparta and Athens went into war from 431 to 404BC. There biggest enemy was the Persains who came from an area called modern day Iran. In the end of the war the ancient Greeks conquered Persia. Some greeks fought with a long spear and a large round shield for protection. They were called

'Hoplites'.
