JOURNEY TO SCHOOL

Dear diary,

I woke up at 6am like usual, groaning as I slipped my freezing feet into some old, worn out slippers and climbed down the stone steps into the kitchen. My stomach churned with hunger as I eyed the plate of toast dripping with butter that was soon going to be mine.

It was a Monday. Probably the worst day, in my opinion, as I had to go back to school. It's not as if I didn't enjoy school,it's just that I'm not very good at it and can get really frustrated with myself(especially with maths). I looked out of the window and saw that it was snowing. I sighed. It was always snowing, well of course, I live in Greenland. After some breakfast I headed upstairs to get dressed and pack my school bag.

At last I was ready to go. Stepping outside in my warmest coat, I finally felt a slight bit of happiness but then frowned remembering the long walk to school ahead of me.

Two hours later I arrived at school. The walk had been 4km through a icy mountain and I was glad to be inside. I stared up at the small building that was my school. It had three classrooms, each with fifty children in each. I am in the middle class as I am only ten years old. The windows had blackened throughout the year and the walls were crumbling at the edges. I had been in this school for as long as I could remember. The bell rang and I hurried inside for the first lesson to begin.

The day went painfully slowly and I thanked god when it was time to go home. After the two hour walk home I traipsed upstairs to my room and did my homework. I was so tired that I fell asleep in the middle of writing an essay about the human body, and only woke up when it was dinner.

Finally, after a long and tiring day I fell asleep with a full stomach and a smile on my face. Another day gone.
