Microsociety journal: week one
Scarcity
In week one we all read a story about scarcity, scarcity is something that means you don't have enough of something for example food. In our first lesson of microsociety we had to make up a name and a flag, we were all put in table groups then when we all took a vote on which we liked best and the flag winners were group f. That was the group I voted for so I was very happy, then when it came on to voting for the name, the name I voted for didn't get chosen but the name that was chosen was Menstropplas, I wasn't in that group but I am guessing they got it from our class name Mensa and the film Zootropplas( it's a great film.)
Next, we did a very fun activity where we were all still in table groups and we had a plastic bag in front of us and in the bag different tables had different things but all related to maths. We had 20 minutes to make as many shapes as we could with the things in the bag, for example one of the groups had 10 pieces of paper, a pair of scissors and a pencil to use. The shapes had to be either 5 centimetres long for a square or 10 centimetres meters long for a circle. Our group was really struggling at first because we had no paper and so couldn't make the shapes and then we realised that we could swap with another group. At the end of the lesson our teacher added up the scores, lucky for us we had a 10 centimetre shape and 5 counters, as each counter was worth 5 points our group came third.
I really enjoyed the first microsociety lesson and cant' wait for the next one!
