Originally they were formed by five tribes:

the Cayuga,Onondaga,Mohawk,Seneca and Oneida.Later in the 1700s,the Tuscarora Joined the French called them the Iroquois but they called themselves the Haudenosauee witch means people of the long house.The British called them the five nations
