Olivia’s cat and kittens diary

Our cat, Cocoa. She has gone up to cat heaven. In cat heaven, it may be beautiful for Cocoa and she gets all the toys and catnip she wants, but it is sad for us because we will never see her again.

We buried her in the back garden and we will plant some catnip on top. We think she had a heart attack. She was 16 and the vet said she had a slight heart murmur.

We went to Battersea Dogs and Cats Home to see the cats. Battersea finds homes for unwanted cats and dogs. Going there made me feel both happy and sad. Happy, because I thought we would get a new cat and help them have a nice life and sad, because I thought that all the cats must feel unhappy as they have either been abandoned by their owners or badly treated by them.

We saw lots of cats, but most of them were black like Cocoa and we didn’t want to get cats that looked the same as her because they reminded us too much of her. So we went home but we will go back soon.

Hurray! We have had an email back from Battersea. They had found some kittens that had only just come in and they suited our profile. They sent us some picture of them. They are black and white and are 11 months old.Their names are Princess and Zion – I think we might need to change them.

We are going to see them on Monday. I’m so excited. We’ve thought of lots and lots of new names, but we need to meet them before choosing.

They are beautiful. I love them – I think they are a Poppy and Zak as these start with the same letters as their original names. They are quite timid and calm. One is a massive boy and the other is a teeny, weeny girl and they are brother and sister. The absolutely love each other: they groom each other, they sleep together. The boy is more confident and looks after his sister.

We couldn’t take them home because they hadn’t been treated by the vet yet. We’ll get a call on Wednesday to tell us when the vet will see them.

The call has come through. They will see the vet on Thursday and we can take them home on Friday. I’m so overjoyed!

Friday, 10 th April 2015

It took us ages to get there, but finally we arrived. We brought the cat carriers in. WE went to see them again and they were a bit less anxious. One of the members of staff out them into the cat carriers and we went to see the vet to make sure they were both OK and ready to come home with us.

It took us ages and ages to get back. The boy was in the carrier in between my brother and me and the girl was on my mum’s lap in her carrier.

When we got home, they rushed to hide behind the sofa, wherethey stayed all day. I hope they come out soon.

WE decided their names. Poppy is the girl and Big Zee is the boy (Big Zee is the world’s strongest man). They came out a little and Big Zeegot sick a few times so we went to the shop to get them some chicken because the people at Battersea recommended it for sick cats. They had never tasted it before. They sniffed it and sniffed it until they realised it was food – they loveit.

Sunday, 12 th April 2015

Big Zee has been sick again. A lot. We reckon it’s because he’s a bit stressed by the move, but it could also be a tummy bug. He’s won’t eat his chicken, but his sister finished it off for him. Poppy and Big Zee are getting a bit braver now.We watched a film and they came to sit with us. They purred like lions. I think that they are wonderful. Big Zee is a real big purrer.
