My evacuation story

I was so lucky, when we arrived at the station. I was with my mum, big and little sister. That evacuation day was special. I had never been on a steam train. We had a grandma who lived in the countryside and we were going to live with her. Our dad was too ill to go to war so he came with us too. My cheeks were flushing and my heart pounding in excitement. When the train pulled over I saw a girl the same age as me. I asked if she wanted to come with us and she agreed. Her face as pail as a as snow and tears running down her face. When we boarded the train my mum said a joke and I saw a crack of laughter in her face. And now to this day I am still friends with the girl. Sherly. I will never forget how her mum could not see her. Even my heart still dreads for Sherly.
