Monday 11th February
We have been so busy in Year 1 over the last few weeks! We began our unit on Handa's Surprise and have learned about the different fruit grown in Kenya. In literacy we have been building up to writing a story so we have been practising writing sentences using adjectives, telling the story orally from a simple story plan, and sequencing the pictures from the book. We very much enjoyed acting out the story using the correct movements for the different animals and we also had a go at putting in speech for Handa and the animals. Today we wrote our stories independently and Mrs Clements and Mrs Rooke were very pleased!
In maths we have practised weights and measure and have weighed and ordered Handa's eight fruits and made smoothies to read 'how much' on a scale. The smoothies were delicious and we have all tried at least one new fruit and described it using our new adjectives. We have also been describing shapes and their properties and are getting to grips with language to describe position.

All the teachers are busy moving resources into our new classroom so we have been thinking about rules and ways to keep organised when we move down! We are so excited! Check out Miss Mason's blog for some sneaky pictures, ours is the one with the purple windows!
