My review of The Worst Witch Reviewed by

Jodie Morris-Hewitson

My review is about a clumsy witch called Mildred Hubble.  She is a young girl who is studying to be a witch and goes to a boarding school called Miss Cackle's Academy for Witches.

Her best friend is Maud but her worst enemy is Ethel.  Ethel and Mildred do not on very well at all. Ethel is mean to Mildred for example Ethel asked Mildred to turn he into to an animal, even though she knew that Mildred was not very good at casting spells.  Mildred accidentally turned Ethel into a pig and she told on Mildred.  I have already mentioned that Mildred is clumsy,  here are some examples; she crashes her broom into a huge puddle and her broom stops working.  As it stops working,  she jumps onto her friend Maud’s broom,  after a while they crash land.

Another time she was clumsy was when she was flying in her pyjamas, with an icy bucket of water and spilt it all over Miss Hardbroom.

The author and illustrator Jill Murphy got the inspiration for her 7 books, from her mother telling her and her friends,  that they looked like ‘three witches’.  She said this because they looked all scruffy, just like Mildred in the story. As she started building up her story, Jill got most of her inspiration from own school.  To come up with Miss Cackle and Miss Hardbroom she watched how her teacher and head teacher behaved.  My favourite character is Mildred Hubble , and I would recommend these books to all children including grown ups so they to can learn about her and her adventures.
