Hello everyone! Todays blog is just going to be about the special Rotherfield celebration that happened today! Everyone was so excited, and everyone did an extremely good job at guiding the guests around! If you weren't there, I'll write a brief summary of our day!
Firstly, we did a bit of maths, as always, just to get settled down in class. We did this for about half an hour, then Miss Jones came to collect everyone who did choir from the school (including me) to practice in the bottom hall for our performance that we did later on that day.
Next me, Olivia and Rachael practiced our instruments (mine being piano), with my piano teacher Victor. He is such a sweet person! He had never heard Olivia play, but he was amazed at her talent! I played three songs, Rachael played one and Olivia played two, but while we were waiting we did a few run-throughs and warm-ups. At first we were not very nervous, but as the first person entered we started shaking and sweating like mad! Rachael played first so she had all the pressure on her, but Victor, Olivia and I said encouraging words like 'great job!' to make her feel relaxed and comfortable! There was this one key on the piano that would not work, and it would always stay down, but after a few plays it went great!
There was a really kind lady (a photographer) and she came close up to me as I was playing to get close-up shots of my fingers and me as I was playing my song! She very politely asked us if it was ok if she took close photos of us while we played, because she didn't know if we felt comfortable with people taking extreme close-ups while we were playing.
All the guests had a cup of tea/coffee with some of these wonderfully baked gingerbread cookies! Me and Olivia kept on telling eachother that we wanted some as we had to play for hours, but, no. No chance at all. Anyways, we repeated some songs and visitors came up to ask us about how long we played our instruments, if we were doing grades, and just to compliment us! They were so sweet!
Later on that day, the choir sang a few songs including 'The Gospel Train', 'Hold My Hand', 'Thinking Out Loud' and 'Blame It On Me'. When we were practicing, and it was just us, Miss Jones and Miss Holland, everything was calm and we felt completely comfortable. However, when we were singing in front of the year 6's, the visitors and some teachers, it was a completely different story. Well, I say that for me. The reason why I say that is because for that WHOLE time I needed to sneeze so badly, so I just avoided breathing with my nose and I stood as still as a statue. Since I am allergic to dust, I was worried something like that would happen, so I held it for the entire performance, as I didn't want to the audience to be distracted by my horrendous, high-pitched sneeze. Just, no.
Apart from that nerve-racking, sweaty performance of mine everything went as planned! All the year 6's did an awesome job at guiding the visitors around; the cooks did an AMAZING job at cooking; the gardeners and Miss Willis did an awesome job at harvesting food and displaying it; Rachael and Olivia did a fantastic job at playing their instruments; and all the staff also deserve a ton of credit! I have to say, today was a pretty fun day for all of us! And, for Onyx class, we also had to do PE! It was such a busy day! However, I, personally, enjoyed it lots! And I do hope they do something like this again.
What would YOU like the school to organize? Please leave a suggestion in the comments, and I will pass it on as school council!
