Islington Primary Schools Football League
Our boys and girls both kicked off their league campaign with victories against St Mark’s Primary School.
In heavy rain and a strong wind the girls were first up. The first half was pretty even with both sides finding it hard to trouble the goalkeepers. After the break we piled forward and were rewarded when a goalmouth scramble saw Fedan put the ball into an empty net, to put us one up. St Mark’s tried to break us down but strong defending from Tanya and Natalia kept them at bay, and earned us a well deserved win.
Squad :- Jodie, Tanya, Natalia, Zoe (captain), Molly M, Molly C, Fedan, Yayla and Khadija.
The boys who had been waiting patiently and were very vocal in their support of the girls got off to a flyer as Han scored in the 2nd minute. With the wind in our favour we pressed forward but without much success. However St Mark’s are a team with plenty of spirit and determination and were rewarded with an equaliser to take the teams in level at the break.
The second half saw the boys step up their game and create chance after chance, but with no goals for their efforts. Just when it seemed it wasn't to be our day Jordan poked a goal in at the far post and then followed up quickly with a cheeky back heel finish to make the final score 3-1. An excellent 2nd half performance from the boys who played some breathtaking football and will hope to build on from this victory.
Squad :- Sid, Amir, Archie, Cameron, Han, Stephane, Cory, Jordan (captain), Louis, and Eloim.
