HANGING ON-POSSUMS

It had been a long hard winter and the last thing the family of possums wanted was to lose their home. The sky was covered in a cool misty wind that swept you into nothingness. The family of eight had managed so far but it was getting harder to survive in these harsh conditions, but losing their home, now it would be hard to survive.

The mother possum was slowly climbing a thick branch to find somewhere to stay for the night. So far the family had had no luck. It soon started to get dark and the babies were getting hungry, so the mother gave up trying to find a new home and quickly got to work foraging for food. At last after many hours of looking the family sat down to a rather small fiest of dead insects.

This family of possums have lost their home due to humans cutting down trees and taking lots of innocent animals homes. Lots of families like this are suffering these consequences and many can die.

There is also the problem of predators that lurk around waiting for their next meal. Animals like cats, dogs, wolves, foxes, owls and other birds of prey are predators to possums.

Possums diet contains fruits, nuts, plants, insects, snails, snakes, frogs, small birds and their eggs as possums are nocturnal omnivores. They tend to sleep in tree hollows, rock piles or logs. They grow to be 40 inches in length, about the size of an average house cat. They are found in North, Central and South America. Virginia possums are found in as far North in Canada and as far South in Central America.

Possums live from 1-2 years due to predators such as dogs, cats and humans.
