Westminster Abbey

The History of Westminster

Abbey,

Westminster Abbey is a large, mainly Gothic abbey.

Church in the city of Westminster, London, England, just to the west of the Palace of Westminster. It is one of the United Kingdoms most notable religious buildings and the traditional place of coronation and a burial site for English and, later, British monarchs built 1063 years ago.

Why is Westminster Abbey important?

What happened in Westminster this weekend?

Who are the new King and Queen of UK?

What did I do during the coronation weekend?

It is important because since William the Conqueror in 1066, all coronations have occurred there. 16 royal weddings have happened at the Abbey since 1100. More than 3300 prominent people are buried at the building.

King Charles 3rd was crowned alongside Queen Camilla at Westminster Abbey this weekend, in a service watched by millions of people around the world.

Succeeding Queen Elizabeth II is her eldest son, Charles, who is now King Charles III. Camilla is now the Queen of the United Kingdom and the 14 other Commonwealth realms as the wife of King Charles III

I watched coronation with my dad, got my face painted with Union Jack, I got a cotton candy, went to the park and

I met my friends.
