The Greeks believed the Olympians lived on the highest

mountain in Greece, Mount Olympus. The Olympian gods included: Zeus, Hera,

Apollo, Aphrodite, Ares, Artemis, Athena, Demeter, Hades, Hermes, Hephaestus,

Poseidon and Hestia or later she was replaced in some lists by Dionysus.



Apollo is a Greek god and he is one of the most

important gods, he is the god of sun, light, knowledge, music, art, poetry,

oracles, medicine, archery and prophecy. He has no beard and he is very athletic.

Zeus is the ruler of heaven and earth after a revolt against his father

(kronos). He is the father of Athena, which is said that she sprung out of his head

and horses and is considered one of the most bad-tempered, moody and greedy

Olympian gods. He was known to be vengeful when insulted. He is the son of

Cronus and Rhea and was swallowed by his father along with Hades, Demeter,

Hestia and Hera. Demeter was the daughter of Cronos and Rhea. She was

the goddess of harvest and fertility. She had one daughter, Persephone; Zeus

was Persephone's father. After Hades abducted Persephone, Demeter grieved. She

revealed to man the art of growing and using corn. In Greek Mythology Ares

is the god of war. He is the son of Hera and Zeus and is one of the Twelve

Olympians. In Roman Mythology his equivalent is Mars. Ares' symbols include the

sword, spear, shield, helmet, chariot, dog, boar, vulture, and flaming torch. Athena

was the Goddess of War, the female counterpart of Ares. She was the

daughter of Zeus; no mother bore her. She was Zeus's favourite child. According

to Homer's account in the Iliad, Athena was a fierce and ruthless warrior. Known
