Holes is probably one of the most well written books ever.
It keeps you gripped from the very first sentence to the
last word.
Stanley Yelnats is a boy cursed by bad luck. His dirty-
rotten-pig-stealing-great-great-grandfather betrayed an
old woman and was punished by a curse on his desendants.
When he is wrongly accused of stealing a baseball player's
shoes, Stanley is sent to Camp Greenlake, where he has to
dig a hole every day. This book tells the story of Stanley's
history, the history of the camp and how he survives his 18
month sentence at the camp.
This book, written in an interesting and gripping way, is one of my all time favourites. It is amazing and I couldn't put it down. It isn't too long, nor too short at 233 pages and is the perfect book to read with a friend. I was thinking about this book long after I read the last word, so I was incredibly excited to read Small Steps.
This story is narrated by Theodore, a boy in the camp with Stanley. This is about how he got mixed up in a ticket scam, and meets Kaira DeLeon, the latest big thing.
This isn't nearly as good as holes, and is largely based on love. It is thicker than Holes and drags on and on and on... I don't recommend it, but do recommend Holes, one of my favourite books.
Holes- 9/10 Small Steps- 6/10
