Bird Watching!
On Friday our class went bird watching for the RSPCB (The Royal Society For The Protection of Cruelty To Birds). The first thing we did before we went bird watching was play a game about bird calls. The way we played this game was we were handed cards with pictures of birds on and told not to show anybody. Then we were taught the calls of the birds in the pictures, which included Lapwings, Great Tits and Wood Pigeons, before we were told to make the sounds of the birds ourselves. You have to have a good ear to play this game because other people will have the same call as you. The aim of the game is to find everybody with the same call as you and stand in a flock (a collective noun for a group of birds although parliament is the collective noun for a group of Rooks).
Once we were outside we were given binoculars, a clip-board and were put into partners. Ella and I were partners, (whoo, hoo!) We then split into two groups and went in search of birds. This gives you some idea of what we saw:
Robins
Number Found:2
Great Tit
Question: Why are Great Tits called Great Tits when they are actually quite small?
Wood Pigeons
Fact: Wood Pigeons are very easy to spot because they sit in high places doing nothing.
We really enjoyed going bird watching and would be delighted to do it again.
