Crispy leaves saturated in mud squelched underneath my leather boots as I trekked across the deserted forest. The wind howled like a wailing banshee, richocheting against the mahogany trees, inflicting an eerie sense of danger around me. Timidly, I toddled forward, inquisitive to unlock the secrets of the petrifying woodland.

Suddenly I glimpsed a ray of golden light reflect in the corner of my eye. Ever so slowly I curiously peered round to where the blinding light was emerging from and the result shocked me out of my skin. A blood red ruby was nestling in a pile of leaves, smothered in trails from slugs and snails. A crispy parchment was next to it with a few complicated words:

Quickly turn around!
Without making a sound!
The ruby that is red!
Could leave you dead!

I let out a gasp of horror and speedily twirled around. My tongue lolled out like a dog as I panted at my close escape. I couldn't believe that I had nearly been paralyzed by a jewel!
