Capital Kids Cricket

Although the weather will tell you it’s not the cricket season, our players donned their whites to take part in the Capital Kids cricket tournament held at the Sobell Centre.10 schools were placed in two groups of five, with Ashmount grouped with Montem, Gillespie, Sacred Heart and Robert Blair. We started well comfortably chasing down Robert Blair’s total of 42, with opening pair Cameron and Kayvon seeing us home.

Next up we took on Gillespie in which proved to be the crunch game of the group. Batting first we struggled at the start but then Louis played some attacking shots to take us to 68 off our 8 overs. Gillespie led by their star player got off to an excellent start which put them in the driving seat and despite wickets for Louis, Gillespie won with an over left.Sacred Heart were next and we got back to winning ways. Batting first again we posted 82, with Han and Cameron in the runs. Some very good bowling and fielding from us restricted Sacred Heart with the highlight being an amazing one handed catch by Ishmail.

The final game against Montem was played with reduced overs, and we made things hard for ourselves but thankfully some big hitting from James led us to a win with 5 balls to spare. Unfortunately Gillespie maintained their 100% record so we had to settle for 2nd place and missed out on a place in the final, but a pleasing effort from the whole squad.
