Life Cycle of a Bird

All birds go through the same life stages.

Stage 1. The female bird lays eggs. The eggs are protected, in a nest, by the bird.

Stage 2. When the egg is ready to break open, the baby bird, starts to move and breaks open the shell. A baby bird is called a hatchling. Its mother chews food for the hatchling and places the food inside the hatchling's beak.

Stage 3. The hatchling starts growing larger and stronger and feathers appear on its body. It still needs to learn how to fly and depends on its mother for food and protection.

Stage 4. The bird grows to adult size and can fly.

It can now reproduce.
