Year 3's Ancient Egyptian Gods and Goddesses Day!
This term in Year 3 we have been working
really hard in all our subjects, but we would
especially like to tell you all about our special
Gods and Goddesses Day....

We did some research on our favourite God or
Goddess and created a head mask and fact card.

We had to practise drawing the face side on because the Ancient Egyptians always drew the faces profile with the full eye showing.

In the afternoon we learnt about 'The Weighing of the Heart Ceremony' and in groups did some drama to show what happens.

When a person dies they go to the Hall of Maat. They weigh the person's heart. If it is light it means that they have been a good person and they can go to the afterlife. If it is heavy it means they have been a bad person and they can't go to the afterlife and Amut would eat them. Amut is made up of three animals a crocodile, lion and a hippopotamus.

This is Josh D's head mask of the God Sobek.
As you can see, not all Gods had human heads,
they would often have parts of animals too!
Sobek was a Nile God who protected the king.

Here are some other head masks created by Daniel
and Josh L. See if you can guess which Gods or
Goddesses they are meant to be...

Today I made a mask. My mask was Amun, he was the King of the Gods. I liked the part where we drew it sideways because Egyptians draw people profile.
