The Swansea Blitz

Everyone remembers the nights of eighty years ago.

When the bombs blitzed Swansea by WWII foe.

Fourteen hours over three nights,

Causing havoc, destruction, and fright.

The fire breathing dragons falling from the sky,

Whistling and howling as they crashed to the ground nearby!

Causing such destruction, no one can deny.

Why they chose Swansea, why, oh why, oh why?

The flames licked the buildings and they crumbled to the ground,

The crackling and the spitting, I won’t forget that sound.

The flames danced around, laughing everywhere,

The Ben Evans store falls to its knees in despair!

Civilians taking shelter all couped up like hens,

After being led to safety by the air raid wardens.

We’re horrified and scared and squashed in our stations,

And hoping tonight’s bombing won’t cause too much devastation.

Eighty years from then, Swansea has moved on.

Many injured and killed and sadly they have gone.

The buildings are quite different to what they were before,

That was a terrible time and a terrible part of the war.
